Time & Space in Jehan

Jehan is in the distant future, where advanced technology looks like magic to us. For purposes of game-play, there are spells and spellcasting. Jehan is the result of Venus being radically transformed, so it has the following features:

Jehan has two moons. Europa in a close 6-day orbit. Europa is a white ice-moon, with red cracks. It reflects about 100x the light of Luna, so a Europa-lit night is like dusk. Also, it eclipses and gets eclipsed much more often due so its proximity to Jehan. Io is in a 30-day orbit. It is a smaller, yellow-and-orange moon, pocked by volcanoes.

Jehan has rings like Saturn. They are called the Arc of Callisto.

Jehan has large seas, but mostly it is land. The terraforming project did not go exactly as planned. The climate is unstable, storms are severe, and deserts are expanding.

Local Spaces

Since the upheavals and population crashes of the previous 150 years, there are only a few regional governments. Most spaces are governed and understood very locally.

Townspace includes streets, squares, and houses. Most houses are private, so “public houses” (inns & taverns) are rare. Alleys are 2-3m wide; Streets are 4-10m wide; High Streets and Squares are up to 20m across.

Gardens immediately surround most towns, where vegetables are grown.

Fields and pastures are further out. Grains and animals are raised there.

Forests are further still. Wild game, wood, and medicinal herbs are gathered there.

Wilderness is any space outside of the rule of Liberty-Through-Law system of guards, judges, and jails. It includes forests, deserts, and mountains. People who live in the Wilderness are considered Outlaws by Liberty Through Law governments.

The Calendar of Jehan
